Gum Disease Treatment – Fair Oaks, CA
Preserve Your Smile’s Foundation
Tooth decay might seem like the most prevalent dental problem in the world, but it’s actually a bacterial infection in the gums called periodontal (gum) disease. The CDC estimates that more than half of people in the U.S. over the age of 30 already have it! It can be hard to spot gum disease at first, but without treatment, it can permanently damage your gums and jawbone and even lead to tooth loss. That’s why we urge you to contact RnR Dentistry if you notice bleeding, red, swollen, or tender gums. With targeted gum disease treatment in our Fair Oaks dental office, Dr. Rivera can preserve your smile’s foundation and give your teeth a healthy home!

Scaling & Root Planing
While early-stage gum disease (also known as gingivitis) can sometimes be reversed with improved oral hygiene, treating more advanced cases requires a two-step process called scaling and root planing. During the scaling portion, we clear away the deposits of hardened plaque that have gathered along and below your gumline. Then comes root planing, in which we smooth down the roots of the teeth where gum disease bacteria tend to build up. At this point, your gums will have an easier time healing and reattaching themselves to your teeth.
Laser Periodontal Therapy
Instead of using traditional instruments, we can treat gum disease with a Gemini 810 + 980 diode laser. To put it simply, this device emits a highly focused beam of light that can instantly eliminate bacteria as well as diseased tissue. The laser is incredibly precise, allowing us to leave your surrounding healthy tissue untouched. Additionally, it sterilizes the area as it works, reducing any post-op bleeding, swelling, or discomfort to practically zero.
